4 Great Credit Card Perks You Didn’t Know About

[Monday, February 20th, 2017]

Most people are familiar with using credit cards to earn airline miles, but did you know there are many other, lesser-known benefits that come with credit cards? If you’ve got a credit card, or a few, read on to find out about some of the perks you might be entitled to and not even know about.

1. Price matching programs. Citi offers Price Rewind, which allows you to register your purchases with their web site. If the price of the item you’ve bought drops by more than $25 within a certain amount of time, they’ll refund you the difference. This is especially helpful during the holiday shopping season, when things are going on sale frequently, and people are often nervous about whether or not they are making their purchase at the ideal time to get the most savings.
2. Concierge service. If your credit card issuer offers this, you might not even be aware of what it is. Often billed as “24/7 concierge service,” it’s really like having a personal assistant available to you at all hours of the day and night. They can help you make a dinner reservation, find a pharmacy when you’re traveling, book an itinerary for a complicated trip, or locate that difficult-to-find exclusive item that you’ve been searching everywhere for. Just give them a call, and they’re happy to be of service. If you have a Visa Signature card, you have this service, along with many of the higher-end American Express cards.
3. Car rental insurance. The next time you rent a car, you can refuse the add-on cost of insurance coverage if you’re using a credit card that already has car rental insurance included with it – and most of them do. Just check with your credit card issuer first and see which clauses are included and what they mean, so you know what you’re covered for and what you aren’t.
4. Signup bonuses. If it’s been a while since you applied for a new credit card, you might not know that these days, there are a ton of great signup bonuses offered. These can be worth hundreds of dollars in gift cards, round-trip plane fares, and other great benefits. So shop around and apply for a new credit card today, and maybe it’ll even have all of these benefits in one card.
