Balance transfer cards survive the card act changes

[Thursday, February 10th, 2011]

A lot of customers during the recent holiday and festive season, had concerns about using their credit cards for shopping. A lot of them in fact, switched to spending cash, checks or debit cards in order to make most of their payments. This has been noted by the card issuers; which is why bigger incentives are hitting the market. Some of these incentives are really wallet friendly, luring the customers to take them.

Many in the credit card industry expected that 0% balance transfer cards would vanish from the scene. This is on the back of predictions that customers would use these cards for benefits upfront and then discard them once the interest rates on the cards were back. However, a lot of card companies have introduced many such cards for all those customers who credit scores are good. In fact, some issuers have gone a step ahead by offering 0% not only on balance but also on the purchases. Those customers who can get the 0% balance transfer cards can really benefit a lot.

These cards will help to avoid extra payments on the debt in the form of interest for almost a year or even more, depending upon the credit score of the individual. There are some cards where the introductory period for which the 0% interest rate is valid, extends for as long as 18 to 21 months, allowing individuals to save in terms of the interest.
