Acquiring financial institution

An acquiring financial institution is a third-party banking service provider hired by merchants to collect and process their daily credit card transactions and settle these transactions with credit card issuers. Merchants must maintain an account with an acquiring financial institution to receive credit for credit card transactions. The acquiring financial institution collects funds from the credit card company and deposits funds minus any fees in the merchant’s account.  This is usually done for a small fee per transaction.
