Answer:
If you have social security number, you can get a bank account. It is important, as it will be possible for you to apply for a secured credit card. The charges will be comparatively high, but it is the only way to establish your credit, your abroad credit history being nonsignificant in the US. The credit limit you will get is determined by the amount of your bank account. Afetr you pay this credit card in full and on time, you'll be able to get bad credit cards, and it's bettet to have several of them at a time to build your credit faster.

Question:
I have one credit card with a high balance, which I intend to pay off as soon as possible, but I'd like to obtain another credit card which I intend to use only for emergencies. My credit score is 645,not the best obviously--but certainly not the worst. My Question:Will applying for another card damage my credit score?

Answer:
You have fair credit, so you should be careful when applying for another credit card as you are eligible for no better than fair credit cards. It is important, as applying for a credit card can damage your score only if you will be denied. If approved, you will get some more points for your score.

Answer:
You are not eligible for a credit card if you have no social security number. If you need a loan, you can take it from your university or some institution giving loans to non-residents of the US. In this case you may have to get a co-borrower - citizen or resident of the US.

Question:
Hi, how are you. Can you give me any advise on how to go about responding to Washington Mutual Bank. I opened an account with a fixed rate of 13.99% and I have never once been late on a payment nor have I went over my credit limit or anything like that. This past month, they raised my interest rate to 21.9% and they say that it is my creditworthiness. What? Like I said, I have never been late or over limit or anything? That is completely unaccepable and I can\'t get anyone to listen when I call customer service. I would like to find a new company with a simialr rate and I will give them my business. This is ridiculous, what a sham!!

Answer:
If raising of the interest rate was not implied by terms&conditions of your credit card (it could be this way: you had 13.99 for intro period and 21.9 as ongoing APR), you have a legal right to apply to the court on this case. The same concerning the bank denying to answer your questions about its products. If you want to get a credit card of another bank and want some advice from us, please, tell us your credit score and requirements so that we could help you.
